Insight on future security trends – A report by Ms. Sangeetha

As we move forward in this era, we are constantly hearing about the increasing occurrences of theft and burglary. Economic inequality has always been a major factor and with the widening gap, the scenario is getting worser. Security guard services are increasingly finding its way into the commercial, industrial establishments and even households. They have become an integral part of virtually every facets of life. With changes in the trend and growing sophistication of crime, it has become imperative that well trained security guards are deployed. Professional security companies are charging around Rs. 10,000/- per month for an eight hour shift. This translates to Rs. 3.6 lakhs per annum for round 24x7 security. With increasing inflation, the minimum wage rates keep increasing making it much more expensive to hire security guards.

In recent times, there has been a paradigm shift towards electronic security systems to evade the rising cost of security guards. This has happened with increased media coverage on such products and the rising customer awareness on electronic security solution.

Current products offer localized and stand-alone solutions for each sensor like – fire, vibration, intrusion etc. They operate independently and need to be maintained separately. The stakeholder who will be away from the site will not be having any updates about the status of his site assuming that all the automated controls works fine in case of necessity.

With the fast emerging security technology scenario and modus operandi of perpetrators of crime, what is required now is an electronic security solution that keeps the stakeholder well informed even if he is on the move. The stakeholder can monitor and control his home or office through internet from any part of the world. Apart from regular updates, such solutions can also offer proactive fault reporting and event based alerts for timely decision making.

Most of the current security products are imported. Apart from being expensive, they are not ideal for the Indian electrical, climate and consumer knowledge level. Also these products, once fails cannot be rectified and has to be thrown away. Security products from local manufacturers are not only economical but also more reliable as they have local presence for after sales support and with their full know how of the technology, the product life can be extended.

Secure households deter crime and ensure secure neighbourhood - a safe place to live.
